Lakeside Country Park is 60 acres of lakes, wet meadow and woodland situated along Wide Lane between Eastleigh and Southampton. Eastleigh Borough Council (EBC) required new multi-use space housing offices, meeting and training areas together with changing and toilet facilities for the Lake users. Additional requirements included a large storage facility for water-sport equipment.
HOP provided Civil and Structural design input from inception to successful completion overcoming various design challenges. Servicing the building, given it’s remote location required various options for dealing with the foul and surface water. We obtained all the complex regulator approvals for the chosen solutions including use of a package treatment plant for the foul water, which then discharged back into the local river; rainwater harvesting was used to deal with the surface water which then connected back into the lake.
The majority of the waterside centre was traditionally built, with some steel framing and exposed glulam timber supported on a reinforced concrete raft flat slab over a gas vented sub-base layer.
