Madeira Terrace Restoration
HOP are delighted, after a great deal of hard work from the whole Design Team, Phase 1 of the restoration of the grade II* listed Madeira Terraces has recently achieved planning approval. This exciting project hopes to rejuvenate this area of Brighton Seafront by restoring this unique historic structure to its former glory whilst also improving accessibility and biodiversity.
HOP are heavily involved in:
- Proposals for the restoration of 40 of the Cast Iron arches, repairing and restoring where possible
- Design of a new deck
- A new 18m lift near Royal Crescent connecting Madeira Drive to Marine Parade
- Refacing works to the East Cliff Wall
- New foul and surface water drainage
Other important elements of this restoration include:
- New lighting, seating and planting throughout
- Protection and restoration of the ‘living’ Green Wall
Full restoration of the terraces is a huge task and further restoration is only possible if funding can be obtained. To find out more information about the works, you can do so by visiting the Brighton & Hove City Council Website; Madeira Terrace restoration (brighton-hove.gov.uk)
