Ascension Island

HOP have been working for the Ascension Island Government since 2011 to review various infrastructure including roads, piers and harbours.

The Client required an Engineer, who could assess their concerns on poor ground conditions affecting the safety of operation plant; overall stability and dilapidation of the pier structure; potential outage of the pier for loading and off-loading operations.

Based on the site observations, HOP produced a schedule of defects and made recommendations on the priority of repairs.

HOP attended site during the high priority remedial works and assisted with the diving operations.

We were also appointed to review the existing waste sites and management of the Island’s waste going forward. This comprised other structural works, including repairs to Georgetown Pier and refurbishment of the Exiles Club.

Quay Collapse

The Ascension Island Government reported a collapse to the only quay serving the island. From initial call out, this project involved visiting the island within 52 hours.

The quay is a highly important piece of infrastructure servicing the British and American Air Force bases on the island and is essential to maintain the UK’s ability to reach the Falkland Islands.

HOP developed island specific repair details which were integrated with the readily available labour, plant and materials to achieve a pragmatic engineering solution to the challenges faced.
